Dr. Dara Abells

Dr. Dara Abells completed her Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Psychology at Queen’s University. She obtained her Medical Degree at the University of Ottawa. She then completed her Family Medicine residency through the University of Toronto, based at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was Chief Resident in her final year.

Following her residency, Dr. Abells created and completed a self-directed Family Medicine fellowship program in developmental disabilities. This year taught her a lot about patience, the power of communication and the significance of using an individualized approach to patient care. She also learned the importance of transition planning for individuals with complex social and healthcare needs. At the same time, Dr. Abells loves the variety within family medicine and the ability to make meaningful connections with patients through continuity of care. She enjoys the opportunity to care for individuals of all ages, with a variety of presenting problems.

Finally, Dr. Abells enjoys teaching and recognizes the importance of training medical learners. She is currently enrolled in the Master’s of Science in Community Health- Health Practitioner Teacher Education program through the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Abells has hospital privileges at Humber River Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. She is a member of the Canadian College of Family Physicians, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario as well as the Canadian and Ontario Medical Associations.
